e-commerce customer serviceJoshua Novick, digital marketing expert and CEO of Antevenio gave an interesting presentation on online marketing in the Internet under the Second Congress of the Mediterranean to be held these days in Alicante, Spain.

We collect some of the most interesting questions and impressions of Novick about it:

What business sectors are those most involved in e-commerce?
There’s everything from large to small ecommerce stores.

And SMEs, why it so difficult to have a presence on the Internet?
In many cases because they have neither the expertise nor the capital needed to launch. Mounting an online store is easy through tools “open source” but the problem is to customer service, and that requires investment and attention.

Many companies are still reluctant to sell their products on the web Why?
Because no learning curve. The vast majority of entrepreneurs of SMEs do not know what “social media”, SEO, Google AdWords and a series of indispensable tools on the Internet. This is essential investment in specialist staff who is familiar with, but not everyone is willing to do so by the fear of failure.

And these companies do not have professionals for this task?
Yes, but not enough. Companies must invest in their training, so that they advise. In doing so, the probability of success is higher, because the experience helps in these cases.

Do you think there is still some fear of buying over the Internet by the perception that people can cheat or steal your personal information?
No, the only thing to worry about is the long delay in delivery or product mistake. This is what causes people to not repeat. But the insecurity of online trading is something past. People are not afraid to shop online because, after all, is the same pay by credit card at a restaurant do so via the Web

In recent years have increased purchases via mobile devices. Do you think some countries are below others in their use?
Absolutely. In part because there has been a great culture of mail order, as, for example, in England, France, Germany or the United States. And that is moved to the Internet, which is another way to sell by mail.

Trade through mobile phones is growing, but still a long way. Shop by mobile is complicated, especially because of the limitations of the screen which makes certain processes, such as the insertion of data, are somewhat uncomfortable. Fortunately, the gap between countries in spending per user is lower every year.

Online commerce, is cheaper than buying in shops and traditional stores?
Yes, especially because of the strong competition from online portals such as Google Shopping, and the like.

What are the products or services that are sold over the Internet today?
Especially cheap airline tickets and travel plans. But intangible products such as music, especially for iTunes.

What are the possibilities offered by social media companies?
Many. Among them, let segment “targets” specific to target advertising in a personalized way.

Are the ads on social networking products, produce more or less rejection than conventional advertising?
Himself. The difference is that these people are looking for certain products and is a fan of them on certain pages of Facebook, which facilitates access to them.

In a crisis like the one we find, is it risky to create an online store?
On the contrary. I think now is the time to launch, as this sector is mature enough to dare to do new things. In some countries there is much room for growth because the business is already established, but Spain and the developing countries are ideally placed to launch and implement such projects.
